with a quick and easy automated Table of Contents in Word 2010 or Word 2013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> First we need to standardize the headings in your documents.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_77\">\n<dt><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Standardizing Headings\" src=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/tableofcontents01-300x44.jpg\" alt=\"Standardizing Headings\" width=\"300\" height=\"44\" \/><\/dt>\n<dd>Standard Headings<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Look for the box above on your Ribbon Bar under Home (Default).\u00a0 As a standard, Choose <strong>Title <\/strong>for the title of your document, then <strong>Heading 1<\/strong> as your highest level of organization.\u00a0 Simply highlight the text you want and click the buttons above.<\/p>\n<p>Use <strong>Heading 2 <\/strong>for items that will appear grouped with Heading 1 for sub items.<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"Formatting the Headings\" src=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/tableofcontents024.jpg\" alt=\"Formatting the Headings\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The section of a document above is formatted for our Table of Contents.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s see how it looks by inserting a table at the beginning of the document.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Inserting a blank page to hold the Table of Contents<\/p>\n<p>Scroll to the top of your document and click the <strong>Insert<\/strong> tab on the Ribbon bar.\u00a0 Look for the <strong>Blank Page<\/strong> icon and click it.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_84\">\n<dt><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Inserting the Blank Page\" src=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/tableofcontents03.png\" alt=\"Inserting the Blank Page\" width=\"185\" height=\"108\" \/><\/dt>\n<dd>Inserting the Blank Page<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Click the <strong>References<\/strong> tab on the Ribbon bar and look for the Table of Contents Icon.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_85\">\n<dt><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Inserting the TOC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/tableofcontents04-300x90.png\" alt=\"Inserting the TOC\" width=\"300\" height=\"90\" \/><\/dt>\n<dd>The Table of Contents Icon<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Clicking on the TOC icon gives you a selection screen.\u00a0 The first option is usually fine, but try experimenting with the others.<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"Table of Contents Choices\" src=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/tableofcontents05.png\" alt=\"Table of Contents Choices\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve selected your style, your TOC should be inserted:<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_87\">\n<dt><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Completed Table of Contents\" Table of Contents<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Update your TOC as you add content.\u00a0 Right Click on the Table of Contents and select <strong>Update Field <\/strong>and the
