Quick and Dirty Rules with Outlook 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Wichita IT Support Tip for April 27th<\/h1>\n<p>As an IT support provider, our job is to make your life easier.\u00a0 One of the ways we can accomplish that goal is to help you get the most out of your applications.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re only using Microsoft Outlook to send and receive emails, you&#8217;re missing out on a host of great features.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to be a network consultant or systems engineer to perform some simple time-saving tasks with this powerful email application.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Rules<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Rules are Outlooks way of determining just what exactly you want to do with a particular email when it comes into your inbox.\u00a0\u00a0 Though there are a variety of options, we&#8217;ll just deal with the most basic, then leave you with some information to let you experiment with the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Say you want to move all email coming in from one person or group to a folder.\u00a0 My own use of this is for newsletters.\u00a0 I want to get them and read them, but I don&#8217;t need to have them cluttering up my mailbox every morning distracting me from more important items.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s move a newsletter automatically into a folder under the inbox.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creating a Move Rule<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>:\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t already have folders under your inbox, now is the time to create one.\u00a0 Right-click on your inbox in Outlook and choose <strong><em>New Folder<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 For this example, I&#8217;ll be creating a folder to move my <em>Morning Call<\/em> emails from the Wichita Business Journal to a folder I&#8217;ll name <em>Morning Call.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The image below is the window that allows you to give a name to the new folder.\u00a0 It also allows you to place the folder where you want it.\u00a0 If you right clicked on the folder you wanted it in (inbox), it will automatically be placed by default.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_237\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-237\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-237\" title=\"Naming the New Folder\" src=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/rules01-265x300.png\" alt=\"Naming the New Folder\" width=\"265\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/rules01-265x300.png 265w, http:\/\/www.properwichita.com\/consulting\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/rules01.png 330w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-237\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Naming the New Folder<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>:\u00a0 Find the email or newsletter you want to serve as an example of what you want moved.\u00a0 I&#8217;m right-clicking on the WBJ Morning Call email.\u00a0\u00a0Hover over\u00a0the <strong>Rules <\/strong>option to open the flyout menu.\u00a0 For our example, I&#8217;m going to choose the top option, <strong><em>Always move messages from&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_238\" style=\"width: 344px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-238\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-238\" title=\"Choosing 'Always Move...&quot; from the Rules Menu<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong>:\u00a0 The next window will ask you where you want to move the emails.\u00a0 Select the folder you created above and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.\u00a0 The new rule will automatically run on your inbox.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong>:\u00a0 Click on the new folder to see the emails.\u00a0 Any new email from that sender will be deposited directly to this folder.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to explore these options more in-depth, click the <strong>Home <\/strong>tab in Outlook 2010 and look for the <strong>Rules <\/strong>icon.\u00a0 From the dropdown, select <strong>Creat Rule<\/strong>.\u00a0 Explore the options for how you can select items, and what you can do with them.\u00a0 This is an easy way to create rules to rid yourself of unwanted email.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t want to see email from someone?\u00a0 Just create a rule to move it to the Deleted Items folder, or delete it completely.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any IT support questions or needs from virus removal to new equipment and network design, call Proper Technology Solutions at (316) 337-56<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wichita IT Support Tip for April 27th As an IT support provider, our job is to make your life easier.\u00a0 One of the ways we can accomplish that goal is to help you get the most out of your applications.\u00a0 &hellip;
